After space evaluation, a Medical Cetner proposed an existing light storage area to be converted into a 29 bed observation unit using DIRTT architectural products provided by American Interiors. The 5,650sq/ft project included 29 bays with thermofoil (3D laminate), custom color, medical gases, modular power, nurse call back boxes and bedside cabinets. The general contractor testified that the DIRTT product was cost neutral in comparison to conventional construction, with DIRTT being $37.17-sq/ft. By the teamwork of one DIRTT crew leader and a union labor team, they installed all 29 bays in 4 days! Proceeding the DIRTT install, electrical and plumbing trades made all their connections in 2 days! The electrical contractor indicated that he saved an hour/bay by having the back boxes and conduit pre-installed. Because of the general contractor’s involvement in the project early on, our DIRTT team was able to coordinate and educate all persons involved. Without the collaboration and willingness to learn about the cost savings, aesthetic and functional benefits of DIRTT, the Medical Center wouldn’t have been able to save time and money to ultimately focus on providing an exquisite environment for their employees and patients.
